Sometimes you just need to do something brave. It doesn’t have to be brave to everybody , it only has to be brave to you.
Bravery is very unique to each person. What one person defines as brave another person can look at as routine. Being brave is doing hard things, scary things and finishing despite fear. Its pushing through something your mind and emotions is telling you may be uncomfortable or unpredictable. Sometimes being brave comes in the form of telling the truth, maybe its the words “I love you” or “you hurt me”. Maybe its climbing a mountain or it could be simply leaving your house to go to the market. Being brave could be running into a burning building or merely saying, ” no.” Maybe for you brave is doing something you don’t think you can, making a decision, going back to school. Saying YES can be a very brave thing.
Sometimes we need to do something brave to get the blood flowing and pumping to our head, our heart and our body. When we do something brave, we feel able, strong and confident. It carves value into our life in places where we may feel worthless or hopeless. It generates resilience and an attitude of strength. You can only be brave alone. It is one decision that cannot be done for you. It must be done by you.
Being brave doesn’t mean we don’t hurt or worry along the way and it doesn’t mean we aren’t afraid. It simply means we permit ourselves to feel those things not be those things. We do not permit fear to make our decisions only be present when we make the decisions. We may let fear come along for the ride, and somewhere along the way it jumps out, vanishes, is eliminated like the dark as the sun rises in the morning. Sometimes brave just looks like moving forward into the unknown, it means walking though we have no control where the path might lead.
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”Nelson Mandela
Sometimes brave is in our rearview mirror and sometimes its in our future, but i think its valuable to bring a little brave into our everyday lives, let it be part of the present, the gift you give yourself today.
And it is a gift. When we do something brave no matter how small or large, we change. We become the person who can. What brave thing will you do today? It might simply be hitting send on the phone. Whatever it is remember, being brave and doing brave doesn’t just happen, Brave is a beautiful choice we get to make and it takes effort. Bravery is a choice that has potential to drag you out of your comfort zone and introduce you to a new part of yourself, a new perspective a new pride that wasn’t there before and you just might like what you see.
